Duffs to Darts on a Dime- 6 Month Check In

duffstodarts is has hit the mid point of the year and is now closing in on the last few months of golf for 2019. Its all about logging rounds and lowering the handicap. What did I do for week 24 and did I hit all the goals for month 6?

Halfway done with the year and the handicap hasn’t changed at all at this point. To be honest I had had expected to play more rounds by now but due to an unusually long winter and a very wet spring that didn’t happen.

The bright side is that now we are in July. We have daylight at 5:00 AM, the weather is warm and every course is open.

The down side I have entered the normal summer busy season in my personal life. BBQ’s and birthday parties seem to fill up most weekends and let’s not forget swim lessons and family vacations. With all that goes into making the most out of summer comes less time to practice for an average Joe like me. June was just that….. busy!

We had our family vacation right on the beginning of the month so for two weeks my practice schedule was non existent. I did plan for golf on my vacation so before I get started on Month 7’s goals, let’s review the goals for month 6.

  1. Play 18 holes in Disney (Bucket list)
  2. Shoot below 90 in Disney
  3. Play two 9-hole rounds
  4. Maintain 2 putts per hole average
  5. Read “The little Red Book” by Harvey Pennick

Goals one and two go hand in hand. I played the Magnolia course in Disney and absolutely loved it.

I had a great time, had a good day finding fairways and I was paired with three local guys who made me feel right at home. The bad thing was I had a hard time getting used to the greens and putting. Missed a few short ones and as a result I shot a 93 and missed my goal of shooting 90 or lower.

Goal three was also a positive check mark. I found time when we returned home from our vacation to log a quick 9 and the following weekend I got up early, played 9 and I was back before the kids even changed out of their pajamas.

Goal 4 of maintaining a two putt average is another feather in the cap.

I had a few three putts and even two dreadful four putts but for the most part I am getting the ball to roll into the cup within two putts for all of my medium and short range putts.

The last goal of reading “the little red book” is a miss. It was a stretch goal but I wasn’t able to finish it with my plane rides to Florida and back. I’m about halfway done and I am enjoying it but I didn’t bit this goal. My score for goals during month 6 is three out of five. Not great but not a complete failure.

Month 7 goals are going to be fun. They all involve playing! Yes there is still the daily practice and now I can log some lunch buckets for once. But with only three months left to lower my handicap I have to play and play well. Here are the goals for month 7.

  1. Play two 18 hole rounds
  2. Play two 9 hole rounds
  3. Log my #golficityopen round and finish in the top net 50
  4. Break 90 on both 18 hole rounds.

It’s that “simple” right. Just play and the rest will take care of itself. Not really but also, kind of. These rounds will require me to play smart and not get too high or too low on myself.

Commitment to my Pre-shot routine and staying focused on every shot. I have a job to do and I don’t plan on not reaching my end goal. As long as the weather holds out, July will be a very fun month for the Duffs to Darts project!

Ed started playing golf when he was 18. It started out as a hobby and something he liked to do but by 2014 it had turned into a full blown obsession. Since then Ed has committed himself to improving and learning more about the game. He doesn’t work in the golf industry, he’s not a teaching pro, he’s a guy who just loves the game and enjoys sharing his thoughts with others who share the same passion.
