EBAY FIND: Tommy Fleetwood Is Putting With A €90 Putter
Tommy Fleetwood may have surprised a lot of people with the strong showings he put up on the PGA TOUR this year, showing the skill to be an elite player. But a more surprising fact about Fleetwood is about the putter that he’s been using lately.
No matter how good the world perceives it and no matter how old it is, there is always one club that consistent golfers will keep in their bag or somewhere safe. These clubs are those that you play well with and are comfortable with but not the ones that you necessarily want to use all the time. Even the PGA TOUR pros have clubs like this and Tommy Fleetwood recently reintroduced it to his bag.
For Fleetwood, that club happens to be a putter. The childhood putter that he used was an Odyssey DFX 2-Ball Blade. Since becoming a professional, Fleetwood has used the Odyssey White Hot Pro #3. But after some poor performances, Fleetwood’s caddie found the 2-ball blade on eBay and bought it for a cheap 90 euros. Fleetwood received it as a birthday gift and used it in a few events early in the year before switching back to the White Hot Pro.

But that wasn’t the last of the 2-Ball Blade, as it has been brought back. “We tried this putter earlier on in the year,” Fleetwood said. “I’ve putted with a blade putter for a while — like three years — because I need the rotation, I need the release in my stroke. The last three or four weeks, I’ve putted poor. The putter I was using is fine when I’m putting well, but when I’m stroking bad like my tendencies, it was literally making it worse.”
And it’s a good thing that Fleetwood never gave up on his childhood putter because after giving it a second chance, he put up two 5-under 65s at the Omega European Masters. That performance was good enough to put him in a tie for second heading into the weekend, only one shot off of the lead. And with how hot he is with that putter, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him overtake the lead at some point.

While Fleetwood is catching fire right now with the new/old putter, it’s too early to tell if this could be a permanent switch. But if he continues to see big results with the 2-Ball Blade, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of it on the greens heading into 2020.
