Cameron Champ Continues to Get Support For Emotional Win
There have been so many heartwarming stories on the PGA TOUR this season but none may be as great as Cameron Champ’s. The young, up and comer was able to win a title for his biggest fan and one of his heroes.
Champ is relatively new to the PGA TOUR but you have probably heard his name before, either for his reputation as a punishing driver of the ball at Texas A&M or as one of the most highly anticipated prospects to hit the pro circuit since Jordan Spieth. And he’s now starting to live up to that pedigree with his win at the Safeway Open this past weekend.
It wasn’t technically Champ’s first win on the PGA TOUR, as he won the Sanderson Farms Championship last October but that was an alternate event to a WGC event so he didn’t face the stiffest competition. The greatest part of the whole thing, however, was seeing Champ get emotional with his caddie and father on the green while sharing the moment with his grandfather who was on the phone to be a part of the celebration.
All the emotions. ❤️

It’s a really emotional time for Cameron right now because the grandfather who would have loved nothing more than to be there for his grandson but is currently in hospice care while battling stage four cancer. Cameron and his grandfather, Mack, have an incredibly close relationship as he taught Cameron the game and the younger Champ embroidered “PaPa” on his cleats this weekend in honor of Mack.
“He’s someone I want to be one day, someone I strive to be,” Cameron said after his big win. “He’s been a huge influence. To be so loving and passionate about others than himself and loving the game of golf and then teaching his grandson, giving me the chance as a kid to love the game and to be able to be sitting here with y’all.”
We have to say that Mack Champ did a great job teaching his grandson how to be a great golfer and a better man and we can expect to see him on leaderboards for a long time. In the meantime, we wish the best to the Champ family as they deal with this trying time and congratulate Cameron on his big victory.
