TRENDING: Bio Kim Suspension Reduced To One Year
After being given one of the harshest and strangest suspensions that have ever been seen for a golfer, Bio Kim now has a reason to celebrate because his suspension has been reduced. But the new punishment is still pretty stiff.
Kim, who was the leading money earner on the KPGA Tour this year, received a three-year ban just last month for his conduct at the DGB Financial Group Volvik Daegu Gyeongbuk Open but that suspension has now been reduced to just one year. It is still a pretty strong suspension but it is definitely a reason to celebrate for the Kim camp.
For those who missed the story from a few weeks ago, Bio Kim was playing in an event on the KPGA Tour and ended up flipping the bird at fans who had apparently taken a picture with a flash that messed up his shot. That is a much bigger insult in Korea than it is in the United States and that is why the three-year suspension was handed out.
Kim had apologized a few days after the incident but the KPGA officials did not show him any mercy. Kim vowed to accept his punishment without appeal and while he lived up to that, the public outcry was so loud that many wondered if the suspension would be reduced. Thanks to social media and PGA TOUR friend Kevin Na, Kim will only be out of the KPGA Tour for one year.
The 29-year-old Kim had a fantastic year in Korea this year so this is a major setback for him. He even played in the U.S. in 2018 on the Korn Ferry Tour and looked like he could be making some more appearances this upcoming year due to his success in Korea. It is unknown if he could end up playing on another tour while he’s suspended but Kim will have a lot to work out in the meantime.
It’s still a pretty strong punishment for a player just losing his cool and making a gesture but you take what you can get I guess. Hopefully, Kim is able to recover and come back from this suspension stronger than he left.
