TecTecTec has been making their name on Amazon for some time with their range finders but now they are stepping into the GPS watch game with the ULT-G. This watch is easily a solid choice for anyone looking to get instant boost in their golf game. The ULT-G Watch by TECTECTEC will retail on Amazon.com for $119.99 with access to over 38,000 courses at a touch of a button. It has a durable design, its USGA compliant and there are no subscription fees.TecTecTec

The ULT-G is incredibly easy to setup. I removed the watch from the packaging and plugged it in to charge. While it was getting juiced up, I read through the instructions. I had expected to have multiple menus to go through, an app to download, a log in to create and so on but none of that was needed. The instructions are straight forward and included pictures of each step.

Even the least tech savvy person could set this watch up. This was proven when it was fully charged and all I had to do to set the date and time was hit the satellite button on the watch. Like magic the current date and time was displayed. Because my daily watch has recently broken, I thought I would put the ULT-G on to fill in for a while. Even as a day to day watch, it works well.

How Does it Work On Course?

As easy as it is to setup, it’s even easier to use when you get to the course. Just like setting up the date and time you use the satellite functionality. It’s important that you are outside when you do this. Being inside your car or the clubhouse could cause some interference.

After you hit the satellite button and it finishes its scan the name of the course will be displayed on your wrist. You hit select and you’re done. No preloading courses or connecting to an app. It’s very streamlined even if you didn’t read the instructions, most people could figure it out. The watch automatically switches from hole to hole. If you are skipping around your club the navigation is easy. Just click up or down on the watch’s buttons until the hole you’re on is displayed.

TecTecTec ULT-G GPS Watch 3

Because the watch is very simplistic it uses codes for hazards. There are not any pictures of the shape of the green or flyovers. RFB for a right front bunker, BLH for a back left hazard. Acronyms like that. When I tested the watch, I brought my current GPS watch along. One because I knew how it worked so if I couldn’t figure out how to use the ULT-G I would have my yardages. More importantly I wanted to be able to compare this product to one that I knew.

There was a small variation in distances from time to time. They didn’t always match up. My current device would say 170 and the ULT-G would say 165 or 175. It was always within 5 yards of my other watch. Now a five-yard difference may be a big issue for someone who is a low, single digit handicap but for most players that 5 yards isn’t going to be that big of a difference between clubs.

If I wasn’t playing with two watches, I wouldn’t have known the difference. Other than that, there was not a big difference between the two watches as far as play goes. This is a straight forward GPS watch. There is no shot tracking, no stat keeping or anything like that.

Pros and Cons

There isn’t much I don’t like about this watch. One thing that I don’t care for is that it doesn’t keep any type of stats for you. By keeping stats about your game, you can take that information to a coach to find the areas of your game that can help you improve.

Because this device doesn’t do that all stat tracking is left up to the player. If you are someone who wants the technology to do that for you, so all the focus is on playing then this watch may not be the best for you. That’s really the only thing I didn’t like about it.

I love the simplicity of this watch when it comes to setup. The battery life on this watch is incredible. You can play up to two and half rounds on one single charge. If you are using it as a daily watch it will last you well over a week before it needs to be recharged. The watch is light weight and can be worn daily. I know this because I am currently doing that.

As I mentioned above my regular watch broke so I started wearing this. I have date and time. It even has a feature that lights it up in the dark. The display on the watch is easy to navigate with minimal buttons. Because it uses your satellite position on the watch, you can show up to any course, at any time and play. It seamlessly goes from hole to hole.

Even if it doesn’t pick up that you have moved to a new hole, its an easy one button click to get you back on track. Honestly, I wish I had this watch earlier this year when I went on vacation. If you are traveling for work or pleasure and there is the slightest chance you will get to play some golf, this watch is a must have.

From the front office to the first tee there is no need to bring anything else to help you navigate around the course. The unit’s competitively priced ($119.99) without sacrificing quality. Customer satisfaction is also a major priority of the TecTecTec brand with their “love it or your money back” guarantee. With this company’s money back, guarantee mixed with the ease of returning an item on Amazon, this watch is worth trying out.
