ATTN GAMBLERS: A Sportsbook Look at the Genesis Invitational

What a field we have at Riviera this week. The Genesis Invitational field includes stars like Rory, Tiger, Jon Rahm, a Brooks Koepka comeback, and the list goes on. This will be the first week of a new series called “Gambling on the Greens” where I’ll be giving you guys picks on matchups, tournament winners, top 10’s, you name it. We’ll be making money week in and week out. I’ve been keeping track of my matchup picks in 2020 and my record is currently 23-14-3 (not too shabby anytime you’re hitting at over a 60% clip), but now it’s time to go public with them. Lets – Go.

Every week, I’ll give out one tournament winner, one top 10, a few tournament matchups, and then some first round matchups for Thursday. Depending on how much of a bender is going on up here at Syracuse University, I’ll either post the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round matchups on here or on @thepinhighpod on twitter/instagram. So here’s to a good week, let’s get it started with a winner.

The Genesis Invitational- To Win

It’s an obvious pick to think that Rory McIlroy will win this tournament, but I don’t see the value at 6/1 (+600). The most value comes from Bubba Watson (16/1)  and Tony Finau (20/1), who are excellent drivers of the ball. This week, I’m going with Bubba as he’s an elite shaper of the ball and has already won at this event 3 times.

The pick: Bubba Watson +1600

The Genesis Invitational- Top 10 Finish

I absolutely love Tony Finau to finish top 10 at Riviera. He’s 2nd in SG: Tee-to-Green, which will be really important at Riviera, and his value at 2/1 (+200) is tough to pass up on. Any worse odds, I would say to leave it, but I think Tony plays great this weekend in LA.

The Genesis Invitational- Tournament Matchups

The first pick I’m going with is Jordan Spieth over Phil Mickelson (-120). Although Phil had a fantastic week at Pebble Beach, he really ran out of steam on Sunday, and to be quite honest, it’ll be hard to replicate his success scrambling like he did last weekend. Look for Spieth to gain some momentum off of a Top 10 of his own.

The Pick: Jordan Spieth (-120) over Phil Mickelson

The second tournament matchup I’ll be taking is Adam Hadwin over Scottie Scheffler. Hadwin has a good track record at Riviera, and the course suits his game well. He’s always been a great putter on tour and his SG Tee-to-Green ranking is sitting at 20th.

The Pick: Adam Hadwin +1 ½ (-140) against Scottie Scheffler

The Genesis Invitational- 1st Round Matchups

I’ve been absolutely money in the first round of tournaments in 2020, so the first pick is going to be Rory McIlroy -½ (-115) over Dustin Johnson. Rory is no doubt going to play great this week and I think this is a safe bet for round 1.

We’re going to cap this round 1 off with Kevin Na -½ (-120) over Kevin Chappell. Chappell is still in the midst of a comeback, while Na is putting lights out and has a fantastic track record at Riviera. Lock this one in.

The Pick: Kevin Na -½ (-120) over Kevin Chappell
