BREAKING: Davis Love III’s House Burns Down Overnight

With all the recent news focused on the Coronavirus outbreak, it’s easy to forget that other tragedies are occurring around the world. Unfortunately, one of those tragedies just hit a member of the golf community.

Early on Friday morning, a large fire broke out in St. Simons Island, Georgia, destroying the house of Davis Love III. Love, a two-time Ryder Cup captain and major championship winner, was in the house with his wife, Robin, when the blaze struck. Fortunately, they were able to escape with no injuries and no one else was in the house at the time.

“While everyone in our family is saddened at the loss of our home that was filled with so much laughter and incredible memories, we’re very blessed that everyone is safe and unharmed,” Love said in a statement. “We’ve very thankful to the first responders who made a valiant effort to save our home, and we’re keeping things in perspective as people across our community and around the world are struggling with the current unprecedented health crisis.”

According to the fire chief, they received a call that the home was on fire a little after five o’clock in the morning. Once firefighters arrived on the scene, the home was completely engulfed in flames. Unfortunately, there was nothing that they could do to save the home and everything inside was completely destroyed.

It’s still not clear how or why the fire started and nothing has been ruled out, however, there is nothing at this time that indicates that foul play was involved. It’s a shame that something this devastating has happened to such a good man in these unique times. All we can do is wish the Love family the best as they continue to deal with this trying time.

It’s heartwarming to see that in the midst of his own tragedy, Love is still focused on those suffering from the Coronavirus pandemic. Hopefully, Love will be able to move past this incident and rebuild his home as soon as possible.
