It only makes sense that if July 2020 came with record breaking equipment sales, that golfers would be taking their new gear straight to the nearest golf course. And sure enough, Shot Scope, a leading international manufacturer of GPS-based golf management systems, is reporting a massive spike in year-over-year July rounds played, from 2018 through the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.

In fact, over a three-year period, Shot Scope data reveals U.K. golfers played 39.7% more rounds in July, with significant upticks in the U.S. at 34.9%, Europe at 27.9%, Canada at 12.7% and the rest of the world at 7.5%.

“On the heels of the COVID-19 lockdowns and closed courses around the world, golfers everywhere jumped at the opportunity to play in 2020, and among our more than 50,000 golfers, July rounds played skyrocketed,” said David Hunter, CEO, Shot Scope. “With the U.K. and U.S. markets recording nearly 40% and 35% growth respectively, and as golf is the perfect outdoor social distancing activity, it is clear that the game is thriving right now.”

Hunter adds, “To add even greater perspective to the popularity of golf, we launched the Shot Scope V3, the game’s first GPS Smart Golf Watch to feature artificial intelligence, in July and it is already being used in 102 countries. This shows how dedicated golfers are to not only playing more, but to improving their game.”

With respect to the V3 Smart Golf Watch, the newest iteration features patented Power-Sense AI strap technology captures data on every shot, delivering golfers instant feedback to better understand their swing and reach optimal performance.

The V3’s technology—which we were thoroughly impressed by during our review—creates an ever-increasing volume and accuracy of data collected from the golfer during play, leading to more insights and statistics that help the player understand their game better, improve on-course strategy and shoot lower scores. The more rounds the golfer plays with V3 the smarter the AI technology becomes, eventually producing highly refined settings that are personal to that individual.

“Artificial Intelligence in a smart golf watch is a game-changer, as the V3 provides golfers with real-time game tracking data like never before,” said Hunter. “It not only allows our golfers to improve their game, but it enables Shot Scope to keep its finger on the pulse of the industry and how the game is trending around the world.”
