WAIT, Did Sergio Garcia Hit His Winning Putt With His Eyes Closed?
I’m going to start putting with my eyes closed. But maybe not for millions.
While Sergio has won on the European Tour since that big major win, getting back into the winning circle on the PGA TOUR has to be nice. And Sergio even won with a little bit of flair! He needed to make a three-foot putt to close out the tournament and he was able to do it. The flair, however, came in when Sergio made the putt with his eyes closed!
One last putt with his eyes closed … the winning putt. 🏆 @TheSergioGarcia is a winner again on the PGA TOUR!

The crazy thing is, Sergio said that was actually a strategy of his. “I would love to putt with my eyes open, but I feel like my stroke is more consistent when I kind of try to forget about it and just kind of feel it,” he said earlier in the tournament. “Sometimes I feel like I have it under control and I’m like: ‘Well let’s go back to like I practice normal’ and it feels good. But when it comes down to the tournament, it just doesn’t feel quite the same so I would say I putt with my eyes closed 75% of the time.”
Even with that little wrinkle and all the celebration, Sergio had to take a moment to reflect on how this win was so important for his family. It’s his first win on the PGA since becoming a father and he has lost two family members to COVID since then. So this was a special win for Garcia to share with his entire family, new and old.
Now that Sergio has gotten back on a bit of a roll, he’ll look to carry his momentum into Augusta next month in an attempt to claim his second green jacket. And if he’s able to pull that win off, that will be one that he and his children will never forget.
