You may have seen or heard about the Derek Jeter hole-in-one a few weeks back while playing his own charity tournament.

A video posted by Sharlee Jeter (@sjeter2) on

His sister was the one who captured the shot and subsequent celebration and posted it on her Instagram account.

On the surface, it seems legit, I mean, he even went over and posed with the car and everything. And besides, who would pretend to get a hole-in-one?

But then, the internet detectives and conspiracy theorists started to take a closer look at the video, including Hall of Fame receiver, Jerry Rice.

It seems Jerry may be on to something there. And, as other’s have pointed out, what’s with the caption of the video? “Or is it?” I don’t know, you were there! Was it or wasn’t it?!

Alas, it seems as Jerry and his conspiracy theorist brethren have nailed this one.

Jeter was on Late Night with Seth Meyers this past Tuesday night and explained his “hole-in-one” at around the 1:45 mark.

So, yeah, he totally staged the whole thing. Although I will say, the story behind it is a pretty entertaining one.

“I told my group, ‘no matter where I hit this ball, just act like it’s a hole-in-one.’ And it was actually the best shot I’d hit all day, so I thought it actually had a chance to be a hole-in-one.”

And did you know he was going through a swing change? Because he’s going through a swing change.
