After 47 events played in 26 countries, The European Tour’s Race to Dubai reached its climax with the fourth event of The Final Series going underway.

The DP World Tour Championship is through its first round, and with seven players still in contention to top the rankings, they are all upping their game to in a bid to lift the Harry Vardon Trophy, and to win a seven year European Tour Card exemption.

After the third round, Kaymer, Sullivan, Poulter, and Fraser are leading the way through 18 holes, after firing opening rounds of 66 at Jumeirah Golf Estates, setting them in good stead for the rest of the week.

One shot behind the leaders is Francesco Molinari, after a bogey-free round of -5, who is looking for his first European Tour win this season.

Although the current top five players topping the DP World Tour Championship cannot win the Race to Dubai, a win this week for them would be a positive end to the season.

Rory McIlroy is still maintaining his top position in the rankings after an opening round of 68, who is being closely followed by playing partner and rival Danny Willet, also on -4.

With the Englishman only 1,614 points off the lead last week, if he wins the DP World Tour Championship, there is nothing McIlroy can do to prevent him from returning home with the Harry Vardon Trophy in his suitcase, along with the title of the European Tour Champion.

Other players who are still in contention to win the Race to Dubai are Brandon Grace in tied 6th at -4, Byeong Hun An a further two behind at -2, and Justin Rose at -1.

With the field so strong and the competition so tight, anything can happen in the next few days at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
