Jeff Knox Lives Out Masters Dream Playing With Jason Day

There are times at Augusta National where the field of competitors is cut for the weekend and there is an odd number of players competing over the weekend.  This, unfortunately, leaves one golfer without a partner to play with in the final rounds.

This is where Jeff Knox steps in to fill the place of a partner at Augusta.  Rather than having a player go out there by himself without any company, Augusta has the 51-year old stand in as a non-competing marker to help with pace of play consideration.

While Knox has never played an official round at Augusta during the Masters, this wasn’t his first time stepping up as the non-competing marker.  This year, he had the pleasure of sharing the course with the world’s number three golfer, Jason Day and former major championship winner Ernie Els.  And while many players would be intimidated by that type of pairing, it was nothing new for Knox.

Knox was placed in a similar situation a few years ago, where he was cast as the non-competing partner with Rory McIlroy.  McIlroy would finish in the top ten in that tournament but the bigger story is the fact that Knox actually shot a better round than Rory.  Mind you, this was in 2014, the same year that McIlroy won the Open Championship and PGA Championship.

If seeing that he was able to have a better round than one of the best golfers in the world wasn’t enough to convince you of Knox’s ability, he can also claim to have the lowest round in Augusta National history, shooting a 61 in 18 holes.  This is likely why many players seek out the Augusta legend when coming to the Masters looking for any advice or tricks he can provide them.

So if you ever have the opportunity to go to Augusta or watch the Masters as a patron, be sure to look out for Knox, who will be loving every second of competing with the world’s best on his home course.
