Just For Fun
John Daly is at the Olympics…Or is He?
If I were to tell you that John Daly was at the Olympics, you would assume he was a fan. But what if I told you that Daly was actually a competitor at the international event.
That’s right, John Daly is at the Olympics competing in skeleton. But I’m not talking about “Long John” Daly from our golf memories. I’m actually talking about an Olympic athlete who’s also named John Daly that is competing in the skeleton competition this week in Pyeongchang, South Korea this week. And both athletes are aware of the other.
Each of the Daly’s have mentioned each other multiple times, with the skeleton Daly giving the golfing Daly a shout out in an interview in Pyeongchang before the games started. And the golfing Daly has repeatedly tweeted out good luck to the man who shares his namesake, hoping that he can bring home the gold. That would be another improbable Daly victory and we’ve seen many of those on the golf course over the years.

In the interview with skeleton John Daly, he claimed that his golfing counterpart could do a run of skeleton just fine but he couldn’t come anywhere close to the golfing Daly’s skill on the links. I don’t expect “Long John” to head out to the Winter Olympics anytime soon but there is an outside chance that he could maybe, just maybe, compete in the Summer Olympics for his natural sport of golf.
And it doesn’t look like the two Daly’s bromance will end after the Pyeongchang games are over. “Long John” has offered that skeleton John join him for a drink once the Olympics are concluded and they’re both stateside. What would they be drinking? The drink that golfing Daly came out with that also shares their name of course.
It’s always interesting to learn that there are people with the same exact name as you. But the odds that they both are star athletes are incredibly low. We wish both Daly’s luck in all of their endeavors and hope they do eventually get together.
