Keegan Bradley Notches Victory at WGC Bridgestone

Just like the US Open at Olympic over a month ago, it felt as if Jim Furyk was going to grab his first victory of the year – but he fell short, again.

Keegan Bradley, being one stroke behind Furyk at WGC Bridgestone, walked up to the 18th green to find his ball buried in the sand as his opponent’s sat in a thick patch of rough just outside the trap.

This is where it gets interesting…

Furyk had a downhill lie to the green but came down on the ball a bit steep with his wedge which left him in another patch of thick grass over the bunker.  He then put that shot 5 feet from the pin and awaited Bradley to hit his bunker shot.   With a strong blast into the sand, Bradley got his ball onto the green but left it about 15 feet short.  He then went on to drop the ball into the cup and fist pumped like he just won the Masters.  The pressure mounted for Furyk as he needed to drop his 5 footer to force a playoff – he ultimately pushed it right for double bogey and settled for a T2 finish.

It was tough for Jim Furyk, a guy who has come up short so much this year, to drop his putter and stand in aw as he tried to gather his thoughts and emotions as he has not won in nearly 2 years.

“I have no one to blame but myself…I’m disappointed,” said Furyk in a post tournament interview.

Not too long ago we saw Adam Scott give up a 4 stroke lead at the British Open to succumb to Ernie Els’ remarkable victory.

Bradley is headed to Kiawah Island for the 4th major (PGA Championship) where a year ago he was also behind with three holes to play when he came up clutch with a couple of birdies to fend off Jason Dufner who collapsed in the final few holes.

Notables such as Tiger Woods finished T8 (-4) and Rory McIlroy ended with a T5 with Justin Rose at (-8).  Louis Oosthuizen, Jim Furyk and Steve Stricker all finished T2-4.
