Shane Lowry is not a F**king Role Model

If you were tuned into Sunday’s final round of the PGA TOUR’s Honda Classic, you might have received an earful of Celtic poetry courtesy of Irishman Shane Lowry.  After fatting his tee shot on the par 3 15th, directly into the water, Lowry didn’t hold back, delivering a scathing — and considering the stage, quite articulate — takedown of his miscue.

Caution: profanity ahoy.

Usually, you expect these sorts of incidents to be followed by a swift apology and a mea culpa, culminating in the ceremonial sweeping of the incident under the rug by the TOUR.  Lowry instead took to twitter to deliver what has to be the single most Irish apology in recorded history.

WON’T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

Now, this next paragraph should be prefaced with the fact that I’m a known degenerate and overall lousy human, but, I love this response.  In fact, I’ll go out on a limb and say golf needs more of this.

A lot more.

Golf has never had a true “bad boy.”  The closest we’ve ever come is probably John Daly, and he really only drank and gambled.  I mean, that’s not exactly something you aspire for, but in my house, drinking and gambling are just a warm-up for actually despicable activities.

Larry Bird once told a player pre-game that he “had a Christmas present for him” and when he put up a 3-point attempt in the game, he turned to him and said “Merry f**king Christmas” before it dropped in.  That’s incredible, and golf badly needs that edge.  I know golf is a “gentleman’s game” and that it has centuries-old traditions of etiquette, but this “aw-shucks” garbage has to be put to bed.

Golf is boring, and Shane Lowry is clearly not.  God bless you and your f**king filthy mouth, Shane Lowry.  Never, ever change.
