Tiger Wins 2013 WGC Bridgestone

When Tiger Woods entered Firestone Country Club on Thursday to kick off his first round, he was the clear favorite in a field of the world’s elite. Tiger was also our top pick this week in our Fantasy Golf Predictions segment publish last Tuesday, making this is our 4th straight week picking the winner in our Fantasy Top Picks, and 5 winners in the last 8 events including two majors. We’re cruising right along this year and if you’ve been listening to us every week, you’re probably dominating your fantasy leagues.

After Tiger carded a career best matching 61 during round 2 on Friday, he quickly became a lock to win the event. All Woods needed to do during the weekend was play smart, not giving away any strokes; and that’s exactly what he did. With a 68 on Saturday and a 70 on Sunday, Tiger played smart golf which included parring 16 holes in his final round.

When asked if anyone could catch up to him on the final day Tiger said, “As blustery as it was, it was going to be really hard for someone to shoot 62 or 63…If I didn’t give any shots away and played my game and shot even par or better, I’d force these guys to go and shoot something super low on a golf course that wasn’t going to give it up under these conditions.” Tiger’s son was on hand to witness his father win for the first time, which incidentally was Tiger’s career 79th win on TOUR. We have to assume that young 4-year old will soon be a name you’ll be hearing about in the golf world in 10 years or so.

As for the FedExCup, Tiger commands a dominant lead with the playoffs kicking off in just 3 weeks at the Barclays. The win puts him 786 points ahead of Kuchar and a win at next week’s PGA Championship would have him potentially sitting even prettier.
