Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has made his Masters pick, and honestly it doesn’t seem like much of a surprise.

“I’ve been thinking about it for a little bit…and to be honest, I like what Jordan Spieth is doing right now” Curry said on the Beyond the Fairway podcast. “He’s playing well enough to be in contention every week… I like where he’s at right now.”

Curry is of course, a “teammate” of sorts of Jordan Spieth’s. Both are endorsed by Under Armour, and serve as the brand’s poster child in each of their respective sports. While it may be easy to point out the potential for a glaring bias in Curry’s pick, don’t forget that while Curry is a world-class basketball player, he’s no scrub when it comes to the ins and outs of golf.

Dell Curry, Steph’s father, was also an NBA player by profession, but was a hobbyist golfer who in turn introduced his sons to the game.

“I got bit by the bug pretty early and became obsessed,” Curry said in an interview with Bleacher Report. “I’d find myself on the basketball court sometimes thinking about my next round. I kind of still do that in the league, which is kind of weird.”

Yes, Stephen Curry has earned his living on the hardwood, but he’s definitely no stranger to the links, and has a vast knowledge of the game, players, and most importantly, what it takes to win an athletic competition on the world’s biggest stage. Curry has dabbled in the land of professional golf, playing in the Ellie Mae Classic in both 2017 and 2018. The Korn Ferry Tour event taught him a lot about what it takes to play the game at the highest level.

“I’ve played in NBA Finals, I’ve played in world championships and played with Team USA,” Curry said. “I’ve played in a lot of big games. There is no comparison to how nervous I was on the first tee, standing there with other professionals, trying to compete.”

With Curry’s firm understanding of the confidence and mindset that it takes to win on the biggest stages in the world, it’s no wonder he’s hopping on the Spieth Hype train.

“When you get him (Spieth) with confidence at that course… I like it. I like it a lot.” Curry said.

Spieth looked confident as he ended his near 4-year winless drought at the Valero Texas Open last week, and seems to be feeling good heading into this week.

Now to be fair, Curry isn’t the only celebrity high on Jordan Spieth. Even the likes of Johnny “Money” Manziel is excited about what he’s seeing.

Spieth’s Masters odds also saw a huge rise following his win. According to PointsBet Sportsbook, he now has the third best odds to win, only behind the likes of Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau.

One thing to keep in mind as far as Curry goes; he almost never misses. Now, we’ll just have to wait and see whether his Masters pick is as accurate as his smooth jumper.
