Greg Norman to Become Commissioner of New Pro Golf League
Golf legend, Greg Norman is set to become the commissioner of a new professional golf league that hopes to begin in 2022. An investment group called LIV Golf Investments is backing this new venture, which plans to have a league that includes some of the biggest names in golf.
Details of targeted players, payouts and the format of play are unknown at this current moment. We should know more over the next few weeks.

This isn’t Norman’s first crack at trying to launch a world golf tour. Back in 1993-94, his attempt was shot down by the PGA Tour. He now has a chance to make it happen. He has fully committed to LIV Golf Investments by announcing that he is stepping back from his Greg Norman Company and letting someone else run it, in order to fully focus on this new golf league.
LIV Golf Investments has unveiled the first step in their plan. A $200 million investment into the Asian Tour will help fund and promote a new 10 tournament series that will be added to the current tour schedule, starting in 2022 moving forward.

The new affiliation with the Asian Tour will allow for the league’s tournaments to be sanctioned, meaning players will be eligible to earn World Ranking points, which are one of the most important aspects for qualifying for major championships. This could potentially turn the Asian Tour into a developmental tour for the new world league, much like the Korn Ferry Tour is to the PGA Tour.
Greg Norman believes that the Asia region for the sport of golf has untapped potential. He said, “To me, Asia is the most untapped, underused tour I’ve ever seen in my life. This is only the beginning. The Asian Tour is a sleeping giant and we share ambition to grow the series and unlock what we believe is significant untapped potential.”

The Shark has shown his support and fully believes that there is room for another major tour to compete with the PGA and European Tours.
I’m excited to see where this one goes. I truly think this might have enough momentum to turn into something great.
