Lee Elder, The First Black Golfer to Compete at The Masters, Dies at 87

Nearly 47 years after being the first Black golfer to compete in the Masters, golf legend Lee Elder has passed away at the age of 87.

Elder will be leaving behind a legacy that will stand the test of time.

As well as being the first Black golfer to play in The Masters, Elder was the first Black golfer to compete for the US in the Ryder Cup in 1979.

During his time on the PGA TOUR & PGA TOUR Champions tour, Elder amassed 4 and 8 wins respectively. His first win came in 1974 where he won the Monsanto Open.

Lee Elder was a champion for equality in the game of golf and he will be sorely missed.
