This is the first time that Cleveland Golf has combined their popular CBX wedge and their ZipCore technology into one wedge. It uses the cavity back design from the CBX which puts most of the weight forward in the toe of the club allowing for a more balanced and forgiving wedge. The ZipCore technology is a lightweight and low-density core that sits at the heart of the club. This helps reduce vibrations, is the perfect center of gravity, and boosts the MOI (moment of inertia) to improve forgiveness.

Cleveland Golf states, “CBX ZipCore delivers the perfect blend of performance and forgiveness for players that never apologize for stepping up their short game.”

To me, this sounds like the perfect wedge for players who have trouble hitting chips or full shots with their wedges. The combination of being a cavity backed wedge and having the ZipCore technology sounds like this club will offer maximum forgiveness while also allowing the golfer to be more consistent.

Most wedges are bladed, yet blades are the toughest clubs to hit consistently because of how unforgiving they are. This cavity back style should intrigue golfers who are looking to improve their wedge play.

This wedge also has UltiZip Grooves, which are grooves that are sharper, deeper, and closer together, and Gelback Technology which is a soft TPU insert on the back of the club to make miss hits feel smoother.

These wedges are available for presale now here in lofts ranging from 44 degrees to 60 degrees in even lofts and retail between $149-$159 depending on which shaft you select.

It will be interesting to see how many casual golfers put these wedges into play, let alone if Cleveland Golf/Srixon staff players Brooks Kopeka, Hideki Matsuyama, and Shane Lowry decide to game them.
