Rockleigh Red/White Golf Course – Bergen County, NJ

A confidence builder at best, this short county course is tucked away in the small town of Rockleigh, right across the street from the Rockleigh Country Club (no course on site).  Be sure to select the Red course as that is 18 holes (Red/White).  The blue course at Rockleigh will only give you 9 holes.

The Red/White track measures 6,812 yards from the tips for a par of 71.  The course rating is 69.5 and it has a slope rating of 124 on Rye grass.  Designed by Alfred H. Tull, ASGCA and Robert Trent Jones, the Red/White golf course opened in 1958 and holds the honor of being the first public golf course in Bergen County.    

With many of its greens protected by bunkers, Red/White is great course to practice your short game skills.  You can really score well here if you hit a long ball even potentially reaching some of the Par 5’s in two strokes.

Hole #4 on the Red course (pictured above) is easily the most most scenic and iconic hole on the course.  Described by course management as “North Jersey’s version of the famous island hole at Sawgrass” this short, downhill par 3 has over 40 yards of water carry and a picturesque green set against the backdrop of thick trees.  The carry can be deceiving and the drop area is little more than a patch of rough by the woods on the left side.  So mind the wind and don’t come up short.
