Court Rejects NYC’s Argument to Evict Trump from Ferry Point
Regardless of where you stand on the political spectrum, Trump has developed and maintains some top-tier golf courses: Doral and its Blue Monster (FL), Bedminster (NJ), and Ferry Point (NY). Unfortunately, Trump’s exit from the Executive Office wasn’t exactly “smooth,”
Following the rioting, many political opponents took the opportunity to take additional shots, some legitimate and others questionable, at Trump. Among those included NYC’s attempt, under former Mayor Bill de Blasio, to void a contract with the Trump Organization regarding the Ferry Point Golf Course management.

As an NYC-area golfer, the popular concern among golfers is what would happen to Ferry Point if NYC took control over the golf course. New York City is—and not New York State, who oversees the Bethpage courses—the ability to manage golf courses can only be described as “nonexistent,” as evidenced by courses like Dyker Beach, the dilapidated condition of co Marine Park, and others.
Ferry Point, meanwhile, offers country club-level conditions, including a grass driving range, the Michael Breed Golf Academy, and an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Design course that has been ranked among the best in State—private and public—and the USA.

Litigation ensued in N.Y. Supreme Court (New York County) after NYC attempted to evict Trump, claiming his association impaired Ferry Point’s ability to maintain a facility “consistent with a first class, tournament quality daily fee golf course and to a quality level consistent with the reasonable standards of a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course,” in violation of the contract.

On April 8, 2022, less than a year after the lawsuit was commenced, the N.Y. Supreme Court ruled that NYC lacked grounds to terminate the contract and, therefore, the Trump Organization could continue to operate the Ferry Point location. The Court noted that the City’s argument was largely premised on a term not even contained in the contract, specifically that the Trump Organization was required to “operate a course capable of attracting professional tournament-quality events.”
Despite the City’s attempt, the fact remains that everyone who’s played Ferry Point can testify to its top-quality conditions that rival Bethpage Black.

A “Tee Box” at Historic Van Cortlandt Golf Course, managed by the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation
Once again, regardless of your position on the political spectrum, the Court’s decision offers comfort in that the NYC’s Department of Parks and Recreation will not run another great course into the ground (cough*Van Cortlandt*cough) as the 2022 golf season gets underway.
