History was made on Sunday, as Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans as the only team to win, wire to wire, from the first round throughout the final.

Edging out Billy Horschel and Sam Burns by two strokes, team Cantlay/Schauffele finished even par for the final round, finishing 29 under par.

Horschel and Burns started to surge up the leaderboard toward Cantlay and Schauffele; the latter made it easier by posting consecutive bogies on the 9th and 10th holes before rebounding on the 11th with a birdie.

Even with a tap in bogie to close out the round, Cantlay and Schauffele were able to hold off the late surge from Horschel and Burns.

The win at The Zurich marks the seventh tour win for Cantlay and his first since the Tour Championship in September.

For Schauffele, this win seals his fifth tour victory and his first since the 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

While individual success and accolades mark important milestones for golfers, the shared success of the team event undoubtedly meant a lot to both Cantlay and Schauffele. Team events bring out a different feel amongst an alternate format.

The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is the only team-format event on the PGA Tour this year.

Do you think there should be more team events on the PGA Tour?
