LIV Golf Tour: Prices for Opener in London a Bit Steep Given Questions Regarding the Field

The first LIV Tour event will be at the Centurion Club from June 9-11, and it looks like the Saudi-backed tour will look to recoup some of that money being used for appearance fees for several of the golfers by way of ticket prices.

A one-day pass is priced at £67.88 (about $85), and a three-day pass covering the entire event is £179.69 (about $225). Compared to this weekend’s British Masters at Wentworth, prices are about half the cost of a one-day ticket to the LIV event. The Open Championship at St. Andrew’s is sold out, and tickets on the secondary market start at around $200 for the early rounds of the event.

Golf journalists quickly pointed out these comparisons.

It’s rumored that 15 of the top 100 golfers in the world will be playing in the first of the eight-event series, but the only confirmed names are Robert Garrigus (who is ranked 1,053 in the world) and—most likely—Phil Mickelson.

Expect fans to hold off on buying tickets until more big names are confirmed.

The Telegraph is reporting that Mickelson will be getting $30 million to play all eight events.

However, there’s still some business with the PGA Tour to sort out—and whether “Lefty” will defend his title at the PGA Championship or play in the U.S. Open in June.
