BREAKING: 3 More, Including Matthew Wolff, Leave TOUR for LIV
Love it or hate it, the LIV Golf fire continues to rise as each day passes.
After signing some heavy hitting amateur talent with James Piot (2021 US Amateur winner) and Eugenio Chacarra (World No. 2 Amateur), LIV hasn’t let off the gas pedal and, instead, is expecting to formally announce the signing of two more growing talents: Matthew Wolff (23 years old) and Carlos Ortiz (31 years old).

Wolff in, in all likelihood, is the most recognizable name.
After powering his way through NCAA golf while playing at Oklahoma State University, Wolff’s incredibly unique, powerful swing helped him achieve near immediate success at the 2019 3M Open—making him only the third player to win an NCAA title and PGA Tour event in the same calendar year, joining Tiger Woods and Ben Crenshaw.
Although Wolff had some noteworthy performance in 2020, including top-5 finishes in the U.S. Open (2nd) and PGA Championship (4th), he began to struggle. After stepping away from the game to compose himself, Wolff has made numerous efforts to secure victory in late 2021, including a second place at the Shriners Children’s Open.
Returning to LIV, the singing of these additional talents will, however, present some issues for the alternative tour, who recently communicated on social media that only 3 spots remained open for the upcoming Portland event (June 30th – July 2nd at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, North Plains, OR).

Regardless how you feel about LIV, it isn’t something that can be simply ignored, particularly as with each week that passes, more and more people continue to join. And if the PGA TOUR wants to do something about it, perhaps they need to evaluate options that provide additional opportunities for the developing talents rather than exclusively catering to the top-20 golfers.
