Tyrell Hatton Calls in Referee to Deal with Talor Gooch Slow Play
Tension built up between fiery Englishman Tyrell Hatton and LIV Golf playing partner Talor Gooch in Saturday’s round at St. Andrews.
Hatton called a referee over on more than one occasion to monitor the slow play of Gooch, who took more than five minutes to hit a shot on one hole on his front nine. Talking yardages, swapping clubs through indecision, and all of it came to a head when two marshalls began to track the group.
According to Open radio, Hatton is about to stomp Gooch because he’s playing insanely slow. 5 mins alone for the last shot and not waiting for the group ahead. Two marshall’s w/ group now. Sick. @NoLayingUp

Both players have been very vocal of late, Gooch comparing the LIV Portland event to the Ryder Cup got him his fair share of criticism from the golfing world. He has also commented this week that the LIV players have banded together as if there is extra motivation to do well because he felt that ‘everybody was against us.’
Hatton has been known to dish out negative comments towards himself, his caddie, and the course when he doesn’t play well, recently questioning the course set-up at Augusta.

Both golfers are still contending, jostling for Top 10 despite hovering around level par for the day. Slow play has been a big issue throughout the week due to the wait times for a lot of drivable par fours, hopefully, this weekend makes for quicker golf and better viewing!
