Tiger’s Favorite Course
“My favorite course that I have been on is St. Andrews. That’s my favorite course of all time. The neat thing about it, that people don’t realize the golf course was designed to play backwards. So, there’s 7 double greens, so you can play from 1 to 17, 2 to 16, 3 to 15. You can do that one time of year and I’ve never got a chance to do that, so that’s one of my goals.”
Our young reporter said, “thank you” and Tiger gave him a nod and a warm smile.
The Evolution of St. Andrews
The course’s routing may have changed a bit, but it wasn’t lengthened drastically as the Old Course never was modernized into a 7,000-yard plus golf course, nor does it need to be. As Jack Nicklaus alluded to, the scores don’t matter if they are really low it will still produce the best player from the field. Take a look at the scorecard.

Jack’s Words
“Might shoot low, so what?” Nicklaus said. “They’re shooting low now compared to what they shot 100 years ago. Times change and golfers get better, equipment gets better, conditions get better.
“Shoot low scores, but I don’t think it really makes a whole lot of difference, frankly. It’s St Andrews and it is what it is, and it will produce a good champion. It always has – that’s the way I look at it.”
Beloved St. Andrews
Though the Old Course may have changed, its deep history of being on record as the 1st official golf course has captured the hearts of amateurs and professionals alike. It’s safe to say that Tiger’s goal will be accomplished and maybe is waiting to share that moment when the time is right with his son. Charlie.
