Wisconsin Man Sets Unofficial World Record by Playing Nearly 18,000 Holes of Golf in 2021
There are a lot of parts to this story that are hard to wrap your mind around:
- Nolen Krentz, 31, played 17,820 holes of golf in 2021.
- That’s an average of 48 holes per day.
- He did it all while walking with a push cart.
- He also has a full-time job and coaches high school golf and basketball.
But perhaps the most astounding fact is that he accomplished this in Wisconsin, where the weather is not typically suitable for golf for nearly half the year.
Krentz pushes his way around the nine-hole course at Norsk Golf Club, starting his play as soon as the course becomes visible at sunrise and is there for every moment of daylight outside of being at his job at a grocery store or fulfilling his coaching duties.

He was presented with a plaque recently to mark the achievement, which is unofficial because the Guinness Book of World Records requires a logbook and a witness for each round. The current official record is 14,625 holes, which was set by Canadian Chris Adam in 2012.
There are other unofficial marks higher than that—the most being 16,398, which was the record prior to Krentz breaking it in 2020 and again in 2021.
His record for a day is 144 holes, which equates to about 40 miles of walking. Not surprisingly, he’s gotten quite good at golf in the process. Krentz is a scratch handicap, and his best score on the par-36 nine-holer is a 30.
What’s next for Krentz? Keep playing golf, of course.
Krentz said:
“The goal is 18,000, whether it’s this year or whenever… Hopefully, Mother Nature cooperates. Three years ago, we had snow on the ground on Halloween. You just never know.”
After that, he says he’ll just keep going, as he has no plans to dial things back anytime soon.
