The WGC Match Play Semi-Finals are Set to be a Thriller

It has been a hard-fought week in Austin, Texas this week with some of the world’s best players going head-to-head in this match-play event. We saw exciting upsets like Davis Thompson beating Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler beating Jon Rahm, but now only 4 men remain.

Our semi-finalists are Scottie Scheffler, Sam Burns, Cameron Young, and Rory McIlroy.

There is no mistake that these 4 gentlemen made it into the semi-finals on Sunday. Scottie Scheffler has been on fire this season, winning the WM Phoenix Open back-to-back years in addition to being this year’s Players Champion.

Scheffler will go up against his friend Sam Burns in the semis. Burns solidified himself on the PGA Tour, racking up three wins last season with 14 top 25s in 24 starts. He has been steady this season, but it hasn’t been enough to put himself in the winner’s circle.

In your other semi-final match, you have Rory McIlroy going up against Cameron Young. McIlroy nearly had two wins in the 2022-2023 seasons and has strongly bounced back from his surprising missed cut at the Players Championship. Unwavered, Rory has put himself back in position for a chance to get his second win this season.

Reigning PGA Tour Rookie of The Year, Cameron Young is looking to get back in his groove with only a lone top 10 thus far. Young knows what it feels like to be in contention with 5-runner up finishes last season while almost winning the Open Championship. He will have his work cut out for him if he wants to break through for his first PGA Tour Win.
