Sir Nick Faldo Reveals The Spiciest Thing About The Masters Champions Dinner, and It Wasn’t PGA v. LIV

Sir Nick Faldo has won three Green Jackets, forever solidifying himself a spot at the elusive dinner table within the clubhouse at Augusta National Golf Club.

Faldo joined the numerous other Masters Champions to celebrate the victory of Scottie Scheffler at last year’s Masters Tournament and gave a good bit of insight regarding “the temperature in the room,” as it would be one of the first times that PGA Tour and LIV Golfers would sit at a table together and enjoy a meal.

This is more than a meal. This is a tradition where memories are shared, personal vendettas are set aside, and the beauty of the Masters shines through…at least, that’s what we’d like to think.

There has been widespread speculation about how the temperament of the room would be this year, as last year, as six previous Masters winners chose to defect from the PGA Tour and join LIV Golf.

As the PGA Tour’s most prolific figures have emerged as spokespeople to back the Tour and speak out against the various downsides of the new competition, there was plenty of belief that the room might be a little bit tension-filled.

However, it appears, based on a Tweet from Faldo, that the differences were set aside for the evening.

The belief that there would be some tension in the room was not unfounded. There are plenty of conflicts going on in the world of golf, and they’re mostly based on the LIV-PGA Tour drama.

First off, we have Patrick Reed in the same room as Tiger Woods, who was part of the same suit that included the likes of Rory McIlroy.

We already saw McIlroy’s response to Reed’s attempted greeting at a DP World Tour event earlier this year, but what Woods’s and Reed’s interactions were at the Champions’ Dinner will likely remain behind closed doors.

We also have Freddie Couples and Phil Mickelson in the same room, two men who have had their differences put under a microscope in recent weeks. Couples called Phil a “nutbag” and Sergio Garcia a “clown” recently, and said:

“If one wants to stop and ask why I’m picking on them (at the champions dinner), then I’m all for it, but I don’t really think I’ve done anything horrific. They’re making comments, and I’m replying to them. That’s it.”

Interestingly, the Masters tee times for Thursday did not separate LIV Golfers from PGA Tour or DP World Tour Golfers. There are 18 LIV players in the field, so it would have been a tough task.
