Jordan Spieth Withdraws From Home State AT&T Byron Nelson Tournament A Week Before PGA Championship
It looks like the AT&T Byron Nelson is another tournament that’s getting the short end of the stick in 2023 due to schedule placement around the Designated Events and majors.
We saw it in February at The Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, which saw only three of the top-25-ranked golfers take part because it was sandwiched between four Designated Events.
The Byron Nelson, a once-popular PGA Tour stop in Texas, comes between the Wells Fargo Championship and the PGA Championship this year. Jordan Spieth, one of the top players who traditionally compete in the event due to his Dallas roots, announced Tuesday morning that he is withdrawing from the tournament.

Spieth wrote
“Over the weekend, I had severe pain in my left wrist and had doctors confirm an injury that requires rest and limited movement,”
“I’m focused on healing as quickly as possible and will have to evaluate my recovery week to week.”
Spieth will no doubt be resting up in an attempt to compete in the PGA Championship next week at Oak Hill in Rochester, New York. The Texan needs that major to complete the career grand slam, but he did miss the cut at Quail Hollow last week.
Scottie Scheffler, also a Texan, is the highest-ranked golfer in the field that features five of the world’s top 30. K.H. Lee is the two-time defending champ and is going for the first threepeat on the PGA Tour since Steve Stricker pulled it off at the John Deere Classic from 2009-11.
