After U.S. Open winner Wyndham Clark spent the week talking about how seemingly everyone—including Justin Thomas—wrote him off during last Sunday’s final round at Los Angeles Country Club, Thomas added fuel to the trash-talk fire during the first round of the Travelers Championship on Thursday.

Thomas and Clark were paired with Max Homa at TPC at River Highlands. On their third hole of the day, Thomas’ second shot on the par-4 12th hole landed around 10 feet from the cup. Clark was around 74 yards out and asked that Thomas mark his ball just in case.

Thomas responded:

The clip was pulled from social media sites by the PGA Tour, but it was still kicking off the above screen capture as of this writing.

After social media jumped all over the comment—as it usually does—Thomas clarified that it was a joke that the latest major champion was meant to have heard.

Earlier in the week, Clark expressed some frustration in an interview on SiriusXM Radio that fans in attendance were against him in favor of Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy. He also referenced a tweet Thomas sent out Sunday morning.

Clark told SiriusXM:

“Even JT in his tweet was like: ‘I see Xander coming out hot’ and this and that, no mention of me and I was like: ‘Alright, boys, you know, get ready for it.’”

Thomas is a two-time major winner (both at the PGA Championship) and has a FedEx Cup and 15 wins on the PGA Tour. He’s been slumping as of late, however, not having won since the 2022 PGA Championship and only recording two top-10 finishes in 14 starts this season.
