Patrick Mahomes and Father of Young Fan Exchange Words Over Denied Autograph at ACC Championship
Patrick Mahomes and the Father of a young fan got into a small exchange of words over the Super Bowl MVP Quarterback denying the kid an autograph during play at the ACC Championship last weekend.
Mahomes was one of many athletes competing in the annual golf tournament that features some of the best golfers that make their living in other sports. We covered several developments from the tournament, including Steph Curry’s triumph as champion and his Hole-In-One on Saturday.
Mahomes was asked by a kid whether he could get his autograph, and when the QB denied it during his pre-shot routine, he said:
“I can’t make everybody happy.”
The voice of what sounds like the father of the young fan interjected and said, “You can make one kid happy,” but Mahomes knows that signing just one autograph will open the floodgates for potentially 100 other kids to be heartbroken. Not to mention, this entire exchange happened as Mahomes was preparing to hit his next shot.

Mahomes is a fan favorite due to his success on the field and aggressive playing style. He is also a golf enthusiast and has played in several Capital One’s The Match broadcasts, including the most recent iteration when he and teammate Travis Kelce derailed Curry and Klay Thompson, who play for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors.
It’s tough to make time for autographs during the course of play, but it’s also become a common practice of athletes to deny autographs on some occasions due to their belief that their signature will be sold for potentially thousands of dollars. Unfortunately, parents sometimes use their kids to get an athlete’s autograph, but it seems that the situation here was more about maintaining a pace of play and avoiding a huge autograph session during the middle of a golf tournament.
