Justin Thomas Missed the FedExCup Playoffs in Heartbreaking Fashion
For the second-straight year, a clutch performance led a golfer into the FedEx Cup playoffs. Last year, it was Tom Kim; in 2023, Lucas Glover put forth a tremendous performance at the Wyndham Championship, earning his first win in over two years and vaulting into the next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Glover’s win forced Justin Thomas into an agonizing 71st in the FedEx Cup standings, missing the playoffs by one spot.
Thomas, who shot a 4-under 67 on Sunday, wound up tied for 12th in one of his better finishes of the year. A season’s worth of struggles led to this chip on 18.

If that took a more friendly bounce and dropped in, Thomas would’ve jumped Ben Griffin for 70th in the standings.
Also just missing out was Adam Scott. The Australian shot a 63 on Sunday to finish tied for seventh, but he needed one more stroke to gain enough points to pass Thomas and Griffin.
Adam Scott has birdied 4 of the last 5 holes.

Finally, Billy Horschel nearly pulled off an incredible comeback after a season that saw him score just two top-10 finishes. He was the co-leader going into Sunday’s final round, but he shot a 1-over 72 to finish fourth. He needed to finish in second to surpass Griffin for 70th.
As it was, Glover was the only player to move into the top 70. He replaces Austin Eckroat, who missed the cut this weekend and will not make the trip to Memphis either.
Here is the complete list of the 70 golfers advancing to next week’s first of three playoff tournaments to decide the FedEx Cup champion.
