PGA Tour Members are Demanding More Transparency Over Negotiations
It’s safe to say that there will not be a lot of time for PGA Tour leadership to relax during the holidays.
In addition to trying to close out the framework agreement with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and DP World Tour by Dec. 31, the Tour is also seeking a funding deal with a consortium of sports team owners led by Fenway Sports Group.
Now, they may have to spend a little more time keeping their own informed of these happenings.
On the same day that the PGA Tour Policy Board sent a memo to players updating them on these negotiations, a law firm representing 21 players fired off a letter to the policy board demanding more transparency over the negotiations along with a meeting with the directors of the board.

Attorney Jacob Buchdahl of Susman Godfrey LLC in New York wrote, in part, “the PGA Tour players who have been kept in the dark about this process are the lifeblood of the Tour. They deserve to know what is happening.”
None of the players represented rank in the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking, but it does include former Masters champ Danny Willett and PGA Tour winners Wesley Bryan, Andrew Landry, and Chez Reavie.
The PGA Tour hasn’t commented on the letter, but they did provide a substantial update on Sunday, the timing of which may or may not have been coincidental.
The PGA TOUR Policy Board has agreed to advance negotiations with Strategic Sports Group and continue PIF negotiations.

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, who is believed to be meeting with PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumiyyan in the coming days, said that the Dec. 31 to close out the deal with the DPWT and Saudi entity is a “firm target.”
