After much fanfare, Anthony Kim played in his first professional tournament in a dozen years.

His first shot was a strong one – hitting the fairway with his opening drive.

Shot No. 2 wasn’t as good, which led to one of seven bogeys on the day.

Kim shot a 6-over 76, sitting in last in the 54-man field at LIV Golf Jeddah.

Despite the unenviable spot on the leaderboard, Kim said there were many positives to take from his round.

Kim said:

“Really played better than the score, and I know I can clean that up pretty quickly. I was very excited to go get it done. Fairway looked very narrow [on the opening tee], so to be able to hit the fairway was nice. Got off to a good start, and then made an unforced error with my second shot. Just too many unforced errors.”

Kim’s round was summed up with a shank on the fifth hole, which LIV CEO Greg Norman attributed to a drone flying overhead at the wrong time.

Kim, 38, didn’t return to the PGA Tour after having surgery on his Achilles in 2012. He won three times between 2008-10 and contributed to U.S. victories in the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup in that span. Kim has said that he will tell the story of why he quit golf for such a long time, but he hasn’t done so yet.
