Double Trouble: We May See Two Woods at 124th U.S. Open
The dust from the Masters is settling, and we’re going full steam ahead into the rest of the 2024 Majors, which the PGA Championship—being hosted at Valhalla Golf Club (Louisville, Kentucky)—less than a month away and the U.S. Open—being hosted at Pinehurst—shortly thereafter.

But what makes the U.S. and British Open so special is the fact that they are “open.” Stated differently, any eligible golfer is able to take their chance and go through a qualifying process and chase a spot to compete alongside the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Tiger Woods.

And it seems that 15-year old Charlie Woods is looking to take his matches with his father to the next level. To explain, Charlie will be competing today, April 25th, in a local U.S. Open qualifier at The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, where 84 competitors will be fighting for five spots to advance to the sectional qualifier, which will be held either on May 20th or June 3rd.
It is worth noting that the odds are not in anyone’s favor (despite what the Joel Dahmen Full Swing episode may suggest). Less than 6% of golfers advanced to the sectional qualifier stage, where less than 10% of those golfers made it to Los Angeles Country Club.
Regardless, Tiger Woods is known for succeeding against the odds, and it’s not unreasonable to believe that he’s laid the foundation for Charlie to thrive in similar, pressure-filled scenarios.

But it goes without saying that Charlie will be competing against several skilled players. Indeed, Charlie isn’t even the only son of a noteworthy PGA Tour golfer who is making a bid to play in the 124th U.S. Open.
Cameron Cole Kuchar, Matt Kuchar’s 15-year-old son, is also looking to make it through local qualifying alongside Charlie at the Legacy Club. Notably, Cameron advanced through local qualifying last year after finishing second place at Wellington National Golf Club in Wellington, Florida.
