Adam Scott Drops BOMBSHELL Regarding PGA Tour Board, Rory McIlroy Drama

Adam Scott dropped a bombshell in a recent interview about the PGA TOUR Board and Rory McIlroy. McIlroy attempted to rejoin the panel last week after leaving it in December, only to be denied reentry by his colleagues.

Last week, McIlroy said that discussions regarding his potential rejoining the PGA TOUR Players Board went south and got “messy.”

Players said they found it “peculiar” that McIlroy would want back in just a few months after voluntarily leaving and that he should have to live with his decision. This incited speculation of some controversy inside of the PGA TOUR Players Board.

However, Scott said in a recent interview that there are no true disagreements or drama within the Players Board:

“I would disagree completely. I don’t see it that way at all. It became a bigger drama than was really needed. Ultimately we got to a really positive outcome. Tiger and Rory are both going to be right there before anything goes beyond that committee. And I think that’s really important at the end of the day that Tiger has a say in how professional golf shakes out on the PGA Tour, something he’s really influenced the evolution of.”

Reports that Woods and McIlroy have had somewhat of a falling out also circulated mid-last week, but Rory said their relationship has not “soured” due to their disagreements about how the professional game should be played.

The truth of the matter is that McIlroy and Woods are two of the most influential players in the golf world, and Scott believes they both hold key roles in how the potential merger between the PGA TOUR and Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) shakes out:

“Rory is the most influential active player. Tiger’s not quite as active as Rory. But Rory’s had a strong voice over the last couple of years. Whatever the result, if they achieve a result together, it’s unquestionable whatever that result is and it’s all positive moving forward.”

McIlroy is still a major part of discussions for the PIF merger, but after he resigned from his director role in the Players Board last year, some of his fellow players were not as keen to have him rejoin in the same capacity.

Reports indicated that Woods, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, and Webb Simpson were all reluctant to allow McIlroy to rejoin as if nothing had ever happened. Instead, Rory was invited to join a subcommittee.

PGA TOUR and PIF talks were hit last night when Jimmy Dunne, who was part of the initial framework agreement between the two parties, abruptly resigned from the TOUR’s Policy Board.

In a letter, he expressed that his resignation comes from frustration over the fact that “no meaningful progress has been made toward a transaction with the PIF.”
