Two Major Mainstays Sneak Their Way Into U.S. Open In the Nick of Time
Qualifying for the U.S. Open has wrapped up, but names are still making their way into the field through a variety of ways, including two players who have been mainstays in the Major Championships for years.
Adam Scott and Sergio Garcia both missed the U.S. Open through their qualifiers. Scott lost in a playoff to fellow Aussie Cameron Davis, and Garcia was the first alternate for the event after finishing just outside the line in a qualifier in Dallas, Texas.
However, both men will make their way to Pinehurst No. 2 this week to compete in the U.S. Open. How?
Adam Scott
Adam Scott was not expected to play in the U.S. Open this year after narrowly missing through a qualifier. In an exciting playoff last week during “The Longest Day in Golf,” Scott was outdueled by Cameron Davis in what was one of the highlights of the qualifiers as the field was set to be finalized.

However, Scott’s recent performance at The Memorial Tournament propelled him into the Top 60 of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). This automatically qualifies him for a spot in the U.S. Open.
Sergio Garcia
Sergio Garcia played his qualifier in Dallas, Texas, last month but finished outside the Top 6 and ties and was eliminated after firing rounds of 66 and 73.
However, Garcia will make another Major appearance at this week’s U.S. Open as an alternate. It is his 25th consecutive appearance at the U.S. Open.
