Malbon x FootJoy Collaboration Brings Old School and New School as One

Malbon has brought its new-school style to professional golf this year with the signing of Jason Day, and FootJoy, with its star-studded lineup of players and its old-school and classic aesthetic, is a mainstay on TOUR.

The two launched a collaboration this morning that brings together the best of modern and elegant style with the traditional and trusted look of a brand that is one of the oldest in golf.

An Unlikely Match

Malbon has been the talk of professional golf style in 2024. Remember back in April when Jason Day wore what was, at the time, the most polarizing outfit at The Masters, and he confirmed that Augusta Chairman Fred Ridley requested he take off his loud and perhaps distracting vest upon making the cut?

Malbon has come with a variety of looks for Day, all of which are interesting and unique. Some of them are better than others, but that goes without saying, at least for the most part.

FootJoy, on the other hand, has clothed players like Max Homa, Will Zalatoris, and Cameron Young for the last few years. Young guns of the PGA TOUR, the three have sported the classy yet custom look that FootJoy has offered for decades.

The combination of the Malbon look and the FootJoy aesthetic brings together one of the most anticipated partnerships that the former brand has launched.

The Offerings

I was lucky enough to get a pair of the Malbon x FootJoy Traditions back when they were launched earlier this year. But what the two companies have done this time around is more well-rounded, with something for nearly everyone.

Pullovers, polos, hoodies, and more dominate the Malbon x FootJoy collection; here are some of my favorites:

MALBON X FOOTJOY SS SPORT WINDSHIRT

“Take the wind out of play. FJ Sport Windshirts provide outstanding comfort and protection on the golf course during windy playing conditions.”

Available in three colors, the Short Sleeve Sport Windshirt is a clean classic design from FJ with the Malbon Buckets Logo embroidered on the front. This is an ideal wear for the days where a slight breeze is felt, but it is not quite cool enough to justify long sleeves.

MALBON X FOOTJOY HYDROLITE RAIN HOODIE

“FJ HydroLite X Rain Hoodies are designed for warmer playing conditions with specifically placed knit panels in arms and back for increased movement and flexibility in the golf swing. Make Every Day Playable with Tour-Proven FJ Golf Outerwear.”

Available in blue and grey, the Hydrolite Rain Hoodie is a four-stretch material that is non-restrictive and keeps you dry on the course when the rain is coming down. It’s a clean look and features the Malbon M on the front, giving it that signature design that combines the two brands cleanly.

MALBON X FOOTJOY TEMPO SERIES SUN HOODIE

“The FJ TempoSeries is a collection of lightweight, technical pieces designed to outperform the expected unpredictability of the game. Advanced technical fabrics and performance stretch provide all day protection and comfort from the days changing temperatures and natural elements.”

I have this exact hoodie without the Malbon collab on it, and it’s one of the best and most perfect things in my closet. If I had to pick five things out of my golf wardrobe to keep, this would be one of them.

It’s a breathable, lightweight hoodie that is perfect for the sunny days out on the course. I have even sat on the beach with it on when it’s been windy, and it’s kept me warm from the wind yet cool from the sun. It’s a nice, soft material that also gives you plenty of range of motion.

Inspired by the likes of Woods, Palmer, McIlroy, and Koepka, Joey plays over 100 times a year in the South Central Pennsylvania area. When he isn't golfing, he is probably thinking about golfing, but he might be watching other sports, writing, or playing poker.
