FootJoy and Harris Tweed have collaborated once again as this year’s Open Championship arrives, being played at Royal Troon.

This year’s venue for The Open is highlighted by its iconic “postage stamp,” the Par 3 8th hole that measures short in distance but tall in challenge.

As the first round of The Open moves through, we are seeing the postage stamp’s impact on players as many are struggling to stay clear of the small, but mighty pot bunkers that surround the hole’s green complex, adding some much-needed adversity for players in the field this week.

FootJoy’s special collaboration with Harris Tweed features two special footwear options in the Field and Wilcox Premier shoe options, both using blue and black crosshatch patterns to highlight an ode to the postage stamp:

“Introducing the all-new FJ x Harris Tweed Premiere Series. This limited-edition collaboration boasts a distinctive hand-woven tweed with a crosshatch pattern, reminiscent of a postage stamp, paying homage to the iconic 8th hole at this year’s Open Championship.”

Collaboration

FootJoy has collaborated with Harris Tweed for an Open Championship signature design for the past few years. However, although not explicitly listed, there is a silent partner in this collaboration, if it could be called that, and it’s the tournament itself.

Mark Hogarth, Brand Ambassador at Harris Tweed Hebrides, said:

“We are always looking for a strong narrative to tie the two brands together and for this year’s collaboration celebrating the 152nd Open Championship in Ayrshire, the design came to me relatively quickly.”

That’s where the postage stamp comes in. Drawing inspiration from its iconic design and legendary impact on the field, it seemed logical for it to be factored in to this year’s shoe design.
