K.J. Choi Wins First Senior Major at 2024 Senior Open Championship
K.J. Choi won his first Senior Major Championship on Sunday at the Senior Open Championship at Carnoustie in Scotland, using a dominant back nine to capture the title.
Choi, a 54-year-old, dedicated his victory to his home country of Korea by saying it was “very historical” for a player from the nation to win the Senior Open Championship.
But his triumph would not have been possible without the star-studded -4 back nine that Choi put together during the final day of the tournament to overtake the names of Richard Green, Paul Broadhurst, and Steven Ames.
Carnoustie was not friendly to the players this weekend, as those in the Top 5 could only muster a final-day score of -2 for the best of them. Fifth-place finisher Ángel Cabrera finished +1 for the day, -2 overall.

Choi never was able to win any of the Majors while a professional on the PGA TOUR, but came close on three different occasions with a solo third at The Masters in 2004, a T6 at the 2004 PGA, and a T8 at the 2007 Open Championship, which was also played at Carnoustie.
Choi commented on his victory:
“I really want it, champion, because my dream come true. For player from Korea, is always Open watch on TV. This event historical in Korea, first-time champion in Senior Open. Very proud this week.”
