Chasing Peak Performance with PAYNTR’s Trainer X

Playing Through: Although PAYNTR is less than 5 years old, making it one of the newest footwear brands in the golf space, they’ve already generated a few hits, including the spikeless X 001.

Their newest offering, however, is a shoe that you wear before stepping foot on the golf course but makes sure that you can perform your best the minute you step foot on the first tee. The Trainer X is the ultimate trainer: it is lightweight, comfortable, and stable, regardless of whether you’re hitting heavy squats or athletic box jumps. Add in a mix of conservative and vibrant colorways, and the Trainer X should become an immediate staple in your off-course toolkit.

Love it or hate it, fitness needs to be an essential part of your regular life due to its indisputable benefits. Add in golf and the desire to play your best, and fitness becomes even more valuable, whether you’re just looking to prevent (and avoid) injuries or maximize playing performance and scoring potential.

And while training apparel options are as numerous as the stars, the ultimate truth is that—like golf—the shoes you wear while training will likely have the largest influence on how those workouts go. Indeed, shoes are your only contact with the ground, which means equipping yourself with the right shoes can be the difference between a reduced risk of injury and squeezing out some extra gains.

I’ve been incorporating golf-focused fitness training for a few years now. Depending on the time of year, my virtual coach at P4S (Par4Success) has programmed a mix of mobility, strength, and explosive movement training to ensure that—despite spending about 50 hours a week sitting hunched over at a desk—I can step foot on the golf course and swing my driver in excess of 110 MPH (and hopefully closer to 120 MPH soon) without fear of injuring myself.

There’s no disputing that my P4S training has been invaluable to date, but the biggest change I made this year was switching out my other workout sneakers for a pair of PAYNTR’s Trainer X 001, specifically in White. And while there’s no data suggesting a direct cause/effect relationship, it’s worth noting that this year I’m hitting my best drives and playing my best golf. In fact, while writing this, I am at my lifetime low handicap (9.7) and getting ready for a 10-week stretch with some high-pressure golf lined up, including competing in a Barstool Classic and my Club Championship.

I believe that I am playing my best and prepared for these obstacles because of Trainer X; they’ve allowed me to maximize my workouts. To explain, the Trainer Xs provide a super stable platform, which is a huge help when you’re hitting heavy squats and deadlifts. Normally, these lifts require wearing a dedicated lifting shoe that, for the unfamiliar, isn’t comfortable and really is a one-trick pony—you won’t see people doing explosive jumps and movements with weight-lifting shoes. But with the Trainer X’s, I can immediately put down the weights and seamlessly transition to athletic movements like box, broad, and vertical jumps to maximize explosive strength—a vital aspect of training for speed.

This blend of stability and athletic performance is largely thanks to PAYNTR’s brand ethos—developing footwear that allows the athlete to extract every ounce of performance—and the inclusion of the Carbitex GearFlex propulsion plate and PMX Nitro+ in the Trainer X 001s. To explain, the Carbitex Propulsion Plate adjusts how stiff it is in response to the wearer’s movements—it stiffens as input increases, but can retain flexibility at lower paces. What this means is that the Trainer X can add stability and enhance the efficiency of movement while still retaining comfort. PMX Nitro+ complements the Carbitex Propulsion Plate by providing cushioning that provides maximum energy return and comfort.

While 99% of us have normal jobs that leave barely enough time to balance our families and golfing obsession, some room should still be made for fitness. Taking care of yourself ensures that you’ll be able to enjoy both for a very long time. Whether you’re just taking your first fitness steps or someone who’s been traveling the road for a long time, the PAYNTR Trainer X 001s may be the missing piece to more inspiring, rewarding workouts. I can confidently say for myself that once I lace up my Trainer X 001, I’m all in on doing everything I have to be healthier, tougher, and stronger—on and off the golf course.

Ever since golf became a competitive outlet, nothing brings Eric more joy than a well struck 4 iron.
