Along with the FedEx Cup and part of a $100 million prize purse, several of the best golfers from the U.S. and around the world will be vying for a spot on the President’s Cup team later this month.

Taking place at Royal Montreal Golf Club Sept. 26-29, the President’s Cup pits a United States team against one from the rest of the world (not counting Europe).

Six golfers from each side have already qualified. They are:

  • Scottie Scheffler (U.S.)
  • Xander Schauffele (U.S.)
  • Collin Morikawa (U.S.)
  • Wyndham Clark (U.S.)
  • Patrick Cantlay (U.S.)
  • Sahith Theegala (U.S.)
  • Hideki Matsuyama (Int’l)
  • Sungjae Im (Int’l)
  • Adam Scott (Intl’)
  • Tom Kim (Int’l)
  • Jason Day (Int’l)
  • Byeong Hun An (Int’l)

Captains Jim Furyk and Mike Weir each have six captain’s picks to make. Some of the players in contention have one last chance to impress at the Tour Championship.

One of those is Keegan Bradley, who is an assistant on Furyk’s staff before he takes the reigns as captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team next year. Bradley, who was left off the 2023 Ryder Cup team despite having two PGA Tour wins a year ago, was an afterthought to play on this year’s team until he went and won the BMW Championship last week. A strong finish at East Lake will leave it hard to keep him from taking on the role of player-coach.

Bradley said on Wednesday:

“I don’t know where that’s going to go, but I’m happy to play whatever role they want me to play. I hope I didn’t throw a huge wrench in everybody’s plans, but I’m proud to be in consideration.”

For the U.S. side, Sam Burns and Tony Finau are expected to be selected. Brian Harman is 11th in the Official World Golf Ranking but missed the Tour Championship by one spot. Max Homa is also out of East Lake, but he was 4-0 in the 2022 President’s Cup and 3-1-1 in last year’s Ryder Cup.

Those who need big showings this weekend to jump into contention include Justin Thomas and Billy Horschel.

For the International side, Corey Conners is expected to be in despite missing the top 30 for this weekend. Those further down in the standings who can impress Weir at the Tour Championship include South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Canadian Taylor Pendrith. Fellow Canadian Nick Taylor didn’t make it past the first round of the playoffs, but his popular 2023 win at the RBC Canadian Open (the first countryman to do so since 1954) could give him a boost.

Furyk and Weir’s selections are due this coming Tuesday.
