Furyk Goes Chalk for U.S. Presidents Cup Team; International Team Heavy on Canadians
The teams are complete for the Presidents Cup, taking place later this month in Montreal.
After the top-six for both the U.S. and International (minus Europe) teams automatically qualified last week, team captains Jim Furyk and Mike Weir named their six captain’s selections on Tuesday.
For the U.S., Furyk followed the Presidents Cup standings to a tee, choosing Nos. 7-12 in the points.
- Sam Burns
- Tony Finau
- Russell Henley
- Keegan Bradley
- Brian Harman
- Max Homa

The points started accumulating in 2023, so that’s why Burns, Finau, Harman, and Homa made the team despite not winning in 2024. Henley didn’t have a win either, but he finished fourth in this year’s FedEx Cup standings. The only winner from the group was Bradley, who won the BMW Championship and will now be a player-coach on the team before he captains the Ryder Cup next year.
Furyk said in a news release:
“When I named Keegan as a captain’s assistant for the Presidents Cup, I knew there was a chance he would play his way onto the U.S. team, and I can say without a doubt he did just that. The grit he showed in the final round in Memphis, followed by the win in Denver, exemplified the competitive nature he has always played with, and I know he will bring that same fire to Royal Montreal in a few weeks.”
The Presidents Cup is a PGA Tour-sanctioned event, so recent major winners Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka were not eligible due to their status on the LIV Golf tour.
Weir looked beyond the standings to select his team. With no Canadians automatically qualifying, the former Masters winner selected three countrymen of the six to join his team.
- Corey Conners (seventh in points)
- Min Woo Lee (ninth)
- Christian Bezuidenhout (10th)
- Taylor Pendrith (11th)
- Si Woo Kim (14th)
- Mackenzie Hughes (15th)

The U.S. has only lost this event once, in 1998, coming in with a 12-1-1 record overall. This year’s Presidents Cup takes place at Royal Montreal, Sept. 27-29.
