While many people are dreading the start of the off-season and lull in professional golfing events, the 2025 equipment launches are starting to roll in fast and furious. Tour Edge, indeed, recently debuted its Exotics 725 drivers—including a new model that is rated for ultimate forgiveness with over 10,000 MOI—and Bryson DeChambeau recently teased Grant Horvat with a prototype version of the LA Golf Driver he’s helping develop.

Cobra Golf is now the most recent OEM to tease its 2025 offering: the DS-Adapt.

The DarkSpeed (possibly being abbreviated to “DS” for this new offering) was a big success for Cobra, as their driver found itself going pound-for-pound with the offerings from Callaway and TaylorMade, regardless if you were a high or low-speed golfer thanks, in part, to its adjustability. Indeed, GolfWRX noted in its 2024 best driver testing that the DarkSpeed was “one of the fastest drivers [we] have tested by far” and recognized that it was the “dark horse that most people will sleep on” but shouldn’t be overlooked. And the DS-Adapt will undoubtedly look to improve on its under the radar performance.

As is the case with USGA Conforming filings, there’s little that can be inferred from the single picture and descriptions. That said, Cobra has filed for approval of three different models: two variations of a low-spin model (the DS-Adapt LS) and a single, middle-road option that will balance forgiveness and distance (the DS-Adapt X).

All models are still to be equipped with Cobra’s proven H.O.T. Face Technology, which—like the majority of OEMs at this point in time—leverages A.I. to help develop a variable thickness so off-center strikes don’t sacrifice ball speed and distance.

While it’s not plainly visible from the USGA Conforming filing, the rumor about the Cobra 2024 offering is that it will also feature a new adjustable hosel adapter that will offer significantly more loft and lie adjustability than its predecessor but also do so in a more compact packaging than the competition.

It’s worth noting that features that allow for additional customization are something all of the OEMs are incorporating. PXG’s Black Ops features, arguably, unparalleled adjustability with its three sole weights, while Callaway and Titleist both offer loft-sleeve adjustability that (arguably) leads the market. And the ability to tweak these features can be what separates you from finding that perfect setup for you and your swing during a fitting.

The DarkSpeed officially debuted on January 11, 2024, so hopefully, we’re not too far away from seeing some pre-release models finding their way into the hands of Cobra staffers (which will, hopefully, allow us to infer more details about the 2025 offering).
