PGA TOUR Enters the 21st Century with New ‘Creator Council’

The PGA TOUR is entering the 21st century today (finally) by launching a new “Creator Council” that will “ramp up [the TOUR’s] efforts to engage with top golf content creators.”

Made up of popular names, including Bob Does Sports, Bryan Bros Golf, Erik Anders Lang, Fore Play/Barstool Sports, No Laying Up, Paige Spiranac, Roger Steele, and Tisha Alyn, the PGA TOUR will use the group to develop strategies for content development and fan engagement.

It is no secret the content creation space has drastically taken over as the most popular way to consume golf content.

Many new players that have entered the game due to the COVID-19 boom are more interested in these YouTube and TikTok content creators than the professionals themselves.

It is safe to say Bryson DeChambeau has become a household name not due to his Major Championships or his play on the professional circuit, including LIV Golf. His name and brand has exploded due to the content he creates, including the “Break 50” series and his recently completed “Hole In One Over My House” series.

The PGA TOUR has been slow to answer to the changing trends in the professional game and how media is consumed. While golf traditionalists still line up every weekend to track the sport and its tournaments, many who are relatively new to the game are more interested in the entertainment level of the content and not necessarily the quality of play.

However, there are still some things the TOUR needs to get aligned with, including letting players use media of themselves, something that the PGA TOUR will copyright strike if golfers do currently.

For what it is worth, this is a dramatic step forward for the PGA TOUR in terms of how it will engage with fans and create more entertaining content.
