LIV Golf Star All But Confirms PGA TOUR Return: ‘I’ve Got an Obligation Here to Fulfill’
LIV Golf star Brooks Koepka shocked everyone when he left the PGA TOUR to join the rival league a couple of years ago, but now that his health and game are back in order, it appears he is close to set on returning to the tour he once abandoned.
Koepka is a five-time Major Champion and one of the biggest names on LIV Golf, but recent rumors have put his future with the league in jeopardy. Fred Couples, a close friend of Koepka and Ryder Cup vice captain for several teams Koepka has played on, recently stated that there is the potential he wants to come back to the PGA TOUR.
“I talked to Brooks Koepka all the time. I love Brooks Koepka, and I’m not going to say anything extra except I talk to him all the time…He wants to come back. I will say that I believe he really wants to come back and play the Tour.”
The statement from Couples drew criticism and speculation from all kinds of people. Phil Mickelson was one person who was especially vocal about Couples’ decision to reveal Koepka’s desire to potentially return to the PGA TOUR, calling it a “low-class jerk move.”

However, Koepka had not responded to Fred Couples' comments until today, when he said that he is still undecided on where is future will be and that he is currently contractually obligated to stay with LIV Golf. With that being said, Koepka still sounds as if things are up in the air. He gave a less confident answer than Bryson DeChambeau, who seemed to unequivocally deny any potential move back to the TOUR.
Koepka said:
“I’ve got a contract obligation out here to fulfill, and then we’ll see what happens. I don’t know where I’m going, so I don’t know how everybody else does.”

This is much less reassuring than what DeChambeau said, as he commended LIV Golf and said he was excited for the future, especially as his team, Crushers GC, seems to be an outlet the two-time U.S. Open Champion wants to continue exploring.
Koepka's decision to join LIV Golf was one that was done out of comfort as his game was suffering due to injuries. He admitted at the 2023 Masters that joining LIV and leaving the PGA TOUR would have been more difficult if his health was better.
