LIV Golf On It’s Way Out? PGA TOUR Gets Its Terms for Merger Deal
The PGA TOUR will get its terms and only its terms in the latest development of the merger with the Saudi PIF that could potentially unify the league with LIV Golf.
This is the latest regarding the potential merger talks, according to sources that are close to the situation. As President Donald Trump arrived in Saudi Arabia for a U.S. Investment forum, there was still time to talk golf.
The message the President will convey to Saudi Government leaders about the golf tours was that the PGA TOUR would get what it wanted, and nothing was a grey area.
🚨🇺🇸👀 #NEW: @golfweek is reporting that during meetings this week in Saudi Arabia, President Donald Trump is expected to tell the Saudi government that a deal between the PGA TOUR & LIV will be on the TOUR’s terms, and will not involve a long term future for LIV. Eventually, LIV Golf would cease to exist, as the President’s communication, which was reportedly curated by Tiger Woods during a meeting earlier this week in Washington, was clearly a way to eliminate the rival golf league.
Golfweek reported:
“As the mandarins in Ponte Vedra understand things, the president is going to Saudi Arabia to tell its autocratic leader, Mohammed bin Salman, that any deal between the Tour and the kingdom’s Public Investment Fund will be on the Tour’s preferred terms, and those terms will not include a long-term future for LIV. Tiger Woods, a director on the Tour’s policy board…was dispatched to the White House late last week to ensure the president would be on message in Riyadh.”
It was the future that PGA TOUR fans were hoping for. LIV is still likely to push back on this as it has established a league that includes team ownership and other opportunities for players, specifically.
