John Daly Makes a Score That Most of Us Haven’t Even Come Close To

John Daly made a score during this past weekend’s PGA TOUR Champions event that most of us, even as amateurs, have never even come close to making.

It is a testament to how this game is forgiving to absolutely nobody.

At this past weekend’s Sanford Invitational, Daly took a 19 on the Par-5 12th hole, as an extensive shot log from the hole showed he hit seven consecutive shots into the hazard before finally getting it to the rough.

He then got up and down for a 19. He finished the round with an 88.

Daly took an 18 on the par-5 sixth at Bay Hill back in 1998. He hit 3-wood into the water six consecutive times on that hole, proving he is not one to give up, not even a little bit. But Daly is not the only pro to put up a massive score on a hole during a PGA TOUR event.

Players like Kevin Na, Chris Gane, Ed Oliver, Dale Douglass, and even Tommy Armour have all recorded scores in the double digits. Armour’s 23 at the 1927 Shawnee Open was the first-ever “archaeopteryx” in golf history — that’s a score of 15 or more over par on one hole.
